    A Doctor of Psychology: General (PsyD-G) degree is an applied degree in psychology designed to provide an advanced foundation in psychological theory and practical methodology. The PsyD-G program focuses on the practical application of psychological knowledge and skills within a clinical context.

    This comprehensive 66-credit program comprises core courses (33 credits), a variety of elective courses to choose from (18 credits), a comprehensive exam (1 credit), and doctoral project courses (14 credits). The program takes on average, four to five years to complete, assuming full-time status but many factors can impact your time to completion such as course loads, course extensions or repetitions, transfer or proficiency credits, and approved leaves of absence. The program length provided does not include these adjustments. Program completion time also depends on an individual learner’s time needed to complete all required doctoral project requirements which varies by learner.

    Yes. Admission to the PsyD program requires learners to already hold a master’s degree in psychology or a related field. Learners who are interested in pursuing a PsyD at CalSouthern but do not hold an MS or MA in Psychology may wish to learn more about our online master’s degree programs in psychology: Master of Science (MS) in General Psychology, Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology, with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy; and Master of Science (MS) in Psychology.
